Colour Lab · tablet app for hair salons

A wireless scale app for top salons and independent colourists

Weigh colour on a wireless scale and Colour Lab records the formula on the client's card to 0.1 g, works out the developer and tells you what the service cost.

How a colour service works with Colour Lab

  1. Scan the colour or pick it on screen

    Works with every brand.

  2. Squeeze colour into the bowl

The scale records the grams for each product.

  3. Pour the developer

Choose the ratio and the app gives you the grams.

  4. Weigh what's left

Next time Colour Lab suggests a smaller mix.

01

Formulas

Every formula saved, for everyone in the salon

Grams from the scale go onto the client's card with your notes. If someone is off sick or on holiday, a colleague opens the card and mixes exactly the same formula.

  • Recorded to 0.1 g, so you can measure even pigments.
  • Several mixes per visit, each with its own note.

Developer

You choose the ratio, Colour Lab works out the developer

03

Topping up a mix

Run out of colour? Mix more of the same

Even if you're only 15 g short, Colour Lab recalculates every product so the top-up matches the original mix exactly. You can also repeat a mix from a previous visit in a different amount.

Topping up by 15 g: Igora Royal 5-0 5.6 g, 5-65 1.9 g and 6% developer 7.5 g, in the same proportions as the original mix

Costs

Know what every colour service costs you

Not just the colour: Colour Lab prices every product in the bowl at your price per gram, and you can add your working time and extra services such as a treatment. You see the total on the tablet and on the reception computer, so you know whether your prices make a profit.

  • Usage, cost and leftover statistics for the salon and each stylist.

Leftover colour

Next time, mix only what you need

After the appointment, put the bowl with the leftover colour on the scale. At the next visit Colour Lab scales the formula down to exactly what the client used.

  • Statistics show how much colour goes in the bin, for the salon and each stylist.

Keep your own diary or use ours

You don't have to change your booking system. Colour Lab can show appointments from selected booking systems, or you can use its own diary with SMS reminders. It also works without a diary at all.

  • With the SMS add-on, clients get a reminder the day before their appointment.

In my view the system is brilliantly thought through. It takes care of both stylists and clients during the appointment.

Questions

What is Colour Lab?

Colour Lab is a tablet app with a wireless (Bluetooth) scale for hair salons and independent colourists. It saves colour formulas to 0.1 g, works out the developer, the cost of every colour service and the colour left in the bowl. It also manages stock and a diary with SMS reminders. It has been used in Poland since 2020, where nearly 100 salons work with it.

How much does Colour Lab cost?

From £49 a month per location, excluding VAT (Simple). Pro costs £65 and Salon Manager £99 a month. Each additional scale is £15 a month. The barcode scanner is an add-on at £9 a month per device, free for salons that start in 2026. The calendar with SMS reminders is an add-on at £15 or £25 per stylist a month. The contract runs for 12 months, and one-to-one online onboarding for every team member is included.

Can I cancel?

Yes. In the first 30 days, cancel with one email and you pay nothing more. Fees already paid aren't refunded, and nor is hardware, which you buy separately. After that the contract runs for 12 months, then month to month. The 14-day cooling-off period in UK law covers consumers, not businesses, so our 30 days is what applies.

What hardware do I need?

A tablet, a Bluetooth scale and a stand from the list of models that work with Colour Lab. Other models aren't supported, so we confirm the list before you buy. A typical set costs £200–£300, one-off. You scan barcodes with the tablet camera.

Does it work with every colour brand?

Yes. Colour Lab already includes colours from many brands and recognises them by barcode. If the barcode on a tube can't be read, you pick the colour on screen. If a product is missing, you add it yourself (brand, line, shade) and every tablet in the salon sees it straight away.

Why weigh the leftover colour?

So that next time you mix less. At the next visit Colour Lab scales the formula down to what the client actually used. Less colour goes in the bin, and the statistics show how much you throw away.

Can clients book online?

No. Colour Lab has no online booking; the salon enters appointments. You can keep your booking system: Colour Lab shows appointments from selected systems.

Does it work offline?

Yes. After the first sync the tablet app works without the internet: weighing, formulas, client records, the diary and stock. You need the internet for the first setup, the browser version, the Excel report, sending orders and keeping devices in sync. Changes sync automatically when the connection returns.

Can I use several tablets and scales?

Yes. All devices in the salon see the same clients, formulas, appointments and stock; keeping them in sync needs the internet. Each additional scale costs £15 a month.

Who owns the data?

Your salon does. You can download or delete it at any time. Data is stored in the European Union.

Is the app in English?

Yes. The app is available in English and Polish.

How does support work?

You write to us in the app and attach a screenshot with the problem marked. You can also email [email protected].
